Saving Taxpayers Dollars With One Integrity Commissioner

Mike Bradley wants Lambton County Council to look into having just one integrity commissioner for all Lambton municipalities.

The Sarnia Mayor has served notice of motion to discuss the possibility at the April 4 meeting.

All Ontario municipalities will have to have an integrity commissioner by the middle of 2019.

"It is going to be a very expensive process for municipalities, especially smaller ones such as Oil Springs or Dawn-Euphemia, which would have to set up and then retain someone on a regular basis," says Bradley. "The City of Sarnia is paying their integrity commissioner $3,000 a year plus expenses, even without a single complaint."

Mayor Bradley says it would follow protocol already in place.

"All the lower tier communities have already worked with the county on different ways of sharing services so this would be a continuation of doing that," he says. "I've already talked to the mayor of Point Edward and they welcome the initiative. Lambton Shores, Petrolia and Sarnia already have their own integrity commissioners but they may want to look at this as a way of saving money."
