Do you have an opinion on the state of Sarnia's elementary schools? If so, the Lambton-Kent District School Board wants to hear from you.
Right now the board is facing challenges including declining enrollment, reduced funding, and aging facilities.
Superintendent Gary Girardi says they're considering plans to reduce the number of schools, and to create single-track French Immersion facilities.
"There is the potential for more consolidation in the City of Sarnia," says Girardi. "We have a large number of unfunded pupil spaces inside of our 13 elementary schools within the city. So, that's something that we would potentially look at in the future."
As of September 2017, Girardi says elementary schools across Lambton-Kent are running at 75% capacity, with some 8,000 empty pupil spaces.
