Site Selected For New Community Hall In Watford

Warwick Township council has chosen its preferred option for a community hall in Watford.

The municipality is concentrating its efforts on building an addition to the arena to replace the aging Centennial Hall.

The decision was made based on a community survey and the fact that they can share staff with the arena.

Mayor Todd Case says early estimates pegged the cost between $3-million and $6-million.

He says they're keeping options open if it turns out to be more expensive.

"After going through a thorough costing exercise when it comes to an addition to the arena, if it seems to be more money than it was supposed to be, we'll still leave Centennial Hall as an option to go back and look at and do renovations," says Case.

A third option that was being considered called for the construction of a brand new building, but that is now off of the table.

Case says Centennial Hall, which was built in 1967, will continue to be open and operating until a new community centre is built.

He expects to have further information in the next few weeks.
