Prep Work At Suncor For Spring Turnaround

Preparation work is underway at Suncor's Sarnia Refinery in advance of its spring turnaround.

The company, in a notice on the Community Awareness and Emergency Response Line, says it's now using its alternate flare to get the main flare ready for turnaround maintenance planned in April.

Suncor says the alternate flare is scheduled to be in use until late June and residents may notice increased flaring and noise while work is being done.

Additionally, the company says it has started transporting brine product in trucks to a location off-site, resulting in increased truck traffic in and around the refinery.

One to two trucks are being loaded each hour, 24 hours a day, five days a week.

That process is expected to be completed by the end of April.

Suncor started transporting workers to the refinery by bus last Wednesday, February 28, in an effort to minimize additional traffic volume during the turnaround.
