An employee of a Hamilton-based tug/barge operator was injured aboard one of the company's vessels at the Suncor Energy dock in Sarnia Monday evening.
McAsphalt Marine Transportation Corporate Safety Manager Joel Gardner says the male worker suffered a leg injury in a fall.
"It was on one of our vessels, he fell less than 10 ft which resulted in the injury" says Gardner. "We're just working with him to make sure he gets what he needs and we hope he feels better soon."
Gardner says the man is recovering in London hospital.
"We're still in the process of finishing our internal investigation, and working with the Federal government as part of their investigation," says Gardner. "We're also starting to begin restarting our regular operations."
Transport Canada says one of its inspectors was sent to the scene by Employment and Social Development Canada to look into the matter under the requirements of the Canada Labour Code.
A spokesperson says the investigation is ongoing and Transport Canada is not in a position to provide more information.
Sarnia Fire and Rescue, Lambton EMS and Suncor emergency personnel responded to the dock on the St. Clair River just before 6pm January 15 to extricate the injured man.
McAsphalt owns a fleet of two integrated tug/barge units "Everlast/Norman McLeod" and "Victorious/John J. Carrick".
