Plympton-Wyoming Mayor Announces Community Appreciation List

Plympton-Wyoming Mayor Lonny Napper is recognizing 13 individuals and organizations for their contributions to the community in 2017.

Recipients of the mayor's Community Appreciation Award will be honoured at a noon luncheon February 3, 2018 at the Camlachie Community Centre.

Everyone is welcome to attend. The cost is a donation to the South Plympton School Closing Ceremony.

Tickets are available in advance only, by calling the municipal office at 519-845-3939 or South Plympton School at 519-845-3141.

The 2017 honourees are:

  • Bruce Roane, in recognition of his 56 years as a school bus driver and 36 years as a custodian at the South Plympton School.
  • Forest Silver Stick Committee for the Earle Trevail Silver Stick Tournament, in honour of 50 years of tournaments, prestigious events and the dedication of many volunteers and hockey players from the community.
  • Donanne Avery, a woman from Wyoming who provides compassionate visits and is described by Mayor Napper as having a "infectious smile and a heart of gold."
  • Lambton Elderly Outreach Volunteers, for their tireless hours of volunteering and making a difference in so many people's lives.
  • Egg Farmers of Lambton County and the Chicken Farmers of Lambton County, in recognition of their generous yearly donation of 1250 dozen eggs and $6,000 in chicken products to the Inn of the Good Shepherd for distribution.
  • Hendra Family. Ian and Mandy Wright and Darryl and Karen Hendra organized a Horse Ball Tournament for friends and family in honour of their father Don Hendra and raised over $7,000.00 for Hospice.
  • Tracey and Sean Cameron and Jen and Mike Vandervelde for organizing a motorcycle run to raise money for a family member who requires specialized surgery.
  • Lady Luck Motorcycle Club, in recognition of 65 years of service in the community. The group promotes motorcycle safety and conducts an annual toys for kids ride.
  • Errol Village School Council is being honoured for a successful fundraiser to replace a playground, which was named in honour of former student Corporal Brent Poland who was killed in action in Afghanistan. The group is also recognized for naming the library after the schools former principal Nancy Swanstrom, who was killed in a 2015 car crash.
  • Alison Feniak, a teacher at Errol Village who was named Energy Educator of the Year – a Canada-wide honor – for her ongoing commitment to environmental education.
  • The Judith and Norman Alix Foundation, in recognition of a generous donation toward the Camlachie Ball Diamond improvements.
  • Wyoming Lions Club, for being honoured with the Canada Sesquicentennial Award.
  • Wyoming firefighter Tony Uzonyi, for his quick response which saved a womans life last April. Uzonyi was attending bingo at the Camlachie Community Centre when the 84-year-old suffered a heart attack. He was able to revive her with CPR. Although she passed away just over a week later, her family was thankful to say their final goodbyes in hospital.
