The Sarnia Sting reinforce their blue line with a trade.
The team announced Saturday evening that they have acquired defenceman Cam Dineen from the North Bay Battalion. In exchange, Sarnia will send defenceman Braden Henderson, two 2019 OHL draft picks, one pick each from 2020, 2021 and 2022, plus two conditional picks.
Dineen is a native of Toms River, New Jersey. The 19-year-old stands 5' 11" and weighs 185 pounds. He has played 136 games with North Bay, scoring 30 goals for 109 points. He was drafted by the Arizona Coyotes in the third round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.
Dineen is known for his ability to protect the blue line as well as score. He finished second in voting for the OHL Rookie of the Year after the 2015-16 season.
“This is an exciting day for our hockey team, being able to add Cam to our current group of players," says Sting general manager Nick Sinclair in a statement. "Cam is one of the elite defenceman in our league, his skill-set and transition game will gel well with the style of game our team plays.”
Henderson dressed for a total 25 games for the Sting since being taken in the sixth round of the 2016 OHL Priority Selection.
Dineen is expected to make his debut in a Sting uniform Thursday when Sarnia travels to take on the Windsor Spitfires.
