In the early morning hours the mercury plummeted to -12.3 C at Chris Hadfield Airport breaking the previous low of minus -8.3 C set in 1926.
Records were also set in several other Ontario communities including Windsor, Kitchener, Hamilton, Kingston and Ottawa.
