United Way Marks 60 Years With Retro Event

After the difficult decision to cancel the Locally Lambton Dinner, the Sarnia-Lambton United Way is bringing back an event from the past.

Executive Director Dave Brown says as the organization celebrates 60 years they're resurrecting the Poor Boy Luncheon.

Brown says the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 62 stepped up and will prepare the meal of wieners and beans, while sponsors from the Locally Lambton Dinner are staying on to help with the retro event as well.

"In past years we've raised $12,000 with the Locally Lambton Dinner, we're hoping we can bridge that gap significantly by holding the Poor Boy Luncheon," says Brown. "If we can bring in $6,000 maybe $7,000, that will go a long way towards helping us reach that $2-million target."

The Poor Boy Luncheon will be held on "Giving Tuesday", November 28 at the Legion on Front St.

Tickets for $7 are available at the United Way office. Brown says take-out will also be available.

Meanwhile, this years annual fundraising campaign has raised $1.32-million or 65% of the $2-million objective.

The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton funds 19 agencies providing 35 programs and services to the community.
