Like moths to a flame, shoppers were circling Sarnia's Sears store Thursday.
The Lambton Mall parking lot surrounding the store was full and there was a steady stream of shoppers heading in eager to snag some deals on the first day of the company's liquidation sale.
Jillian McBean of Brights Grove and Theresa Cameron of Sarnia were loading their purchases into their vehicle and planning to head back into the store when they stopped to talk with Blackburn News Sarnia.
"It's crazy! It's like Black Friday," said McBean. "I've got some towels, some bedding, a little tray and some clothes for my son."
"It's hard to even find a checkout without a huge lineup," Cameron added. "But, we found the perfect spot so we're going straight back."
An Ontario judge granted Sears Canada permission to liquidate its remaining 130 stores -- including Sarnia's -- last Friday.
Liquidation sales are expected to continue for 10 to 14 weeks.
The closure will impact 92 part-time and 16 full-time employees in Sarnia -- 12,000 across Canada.
