Saying there's been a total disconnect between the governing Liberals and small town and rural Ontario, a longtime municipal politician will represent the Lambton-Kent-Middlesex New Democrats in the 2018 provincial election.
Todd Case has been mayor of Warwick Township for the past 17 years.
"Something has to give," says Case. "I've never seen it as bad as it is right now. There's a total disconnect between the Liberal government in Toronto and small town, rural Ontario. Whether it's a large city or a small urban centre, they should be given the same amount of respect and fairness by the government and that's not happening. That's one of the biggest reasons why I'm jumping in."
If elected, Case says he will hold open public meetings across the large municipality to get a better idea of the issues most important to residents.
Incumbent Monte McNaughton will seek the Progressive Conservative nomination.
No one has yet declared to seek the nomination for the Liberals.
The next provincial election will be held on or before June 7 of next year.
