Charges against a Toronto company building the Green Electron power plant in St. Clair Township have been dismissed. Greenfield South Power Corporation was facing five charges under the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Over 200 unionized tradespeople held a protest in August 2015 complaining of poor work practices and unsafe working conditions. The Ontario Labour Ministry investigated and laid charges.
The project was relocated to St. Clair Township after Ontario’s liberal government stopped work in Mississauga in advance of the 2011 provincial election. Construction of the $360-million natural gas fed power plant, that originally began in 2013 on Oil Springs Line, was completed in April.
