Sarnia's mayor thinks it's only fair.
Mike Bradley wants the federal government to expunge the criminal records for people who have had minor possession charges when marijuana is decriminalized next July.
"Particularly in a border city, we have many people who, for a simple conviction on marijuana possession, can't cross the border or they have problems getting a job," says Bradley. "If it's going to be legal, they should look to the past and erase those penalties."
Bradley doesn't think a pardon should proceed if there are other issues involved with the charge.
He says tens of thousands of people have received convictions for simple possession in Canada, going back decades.
Mayor Bradley has sent a letter to Justin Trudeau asking the prime minister to consider the change.
