The B.C.-based producer of a $30-million medical marijuana grow-op in Enniskillen Township wants to clear the air about its proposal for the Enniskillen Pepper Company on Lasalle Line.
Pending Health Canada approval, Tilray hopes to begin replacing pepper plants with pot in January of next year.
Mayor Kevin Marriott believes the initial operation will employ about 50 people. That could jump to as high as 350 if Tilray decides to set up a processing plant in the township.
"There's always misconceptions, so that's the reason for the meeting: to answer any questions people may have," says Marriott. "Going forward from the greenhouse, there's always the possibility of a processing plant. Right now Tilray has a plant in B.C. but I'd like so see another plant built here."
Marriott says he's been heard that should Health Canada grant Tilray a licence , the initial operation would employ about 50 people. A processing plant could create up to 350 positions.
There's a public meeting from 5:30pm until 7pm Thursday, at the Enniskillen Township Building at 4465 Rokeby Line.
