'Toking Tourists' Among Mayor's Pot Concerns

Sarnia's mayor still has questions about the legalization of pot including the prospect of what he's calling "toking tourists."

Mike Bradley took part in a conference call with other mayors and the attorney general late Friday morning as the province rolled out its plan in advance of Ottawa's legalization next year.

Bradley says they need more answers.

"The question of whether municipalities will have a veto on the location of these sites, whether we would be able to zone them into areas that we think are most appropriate is still not clear, there's a lot of talk about engagement but what that means is not clear either and the idea of revenue sharing, something that has been brought up in this area through County Council, still has not been addressed," says Bradley.

Being a border city, Mayor Bradley is also concerned Sarnia will see an influx of "toking tourists" impacting the community and policing among other issues.

The province says the sale of marijuana will be restricted to people over 19 and sold in as many as 150 stores run by the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) that will operate as separate outlets.

The LCBO will also sell pot online through a government-run website.
