The Sarnia Sting have signed a fifth player from the 2017 OHL draft class.
Defenceman Colton Kammerer has signed a standard player agreement and education package for the upcoming season.
The Brooklin, Ontario native spent the 2016-2017 season with the Whitby Wildcats; registering 34 points (6G, 28A) in 36 games played.
The 52nd overall pick added another five points in six playoff games with his minor midget club en route to capturing the OMHA Championship and clinching a berth in the 2017 OHL Cup.
The 6’0” defenceman is expected make his official Sting debut this weekend when the Sting take on the Knights in a Pre-Season home-and-home series.
Sting GM Nick Sinclair is thrilled to have Colton on board, “We’re happy to receive a commitment from Colton and the Kammerer family. He has worked extremely hard over the summer and came to camp with the right mentality. At both orientation camp and main camp, Colton and was a stand-out in the eyes of our hockey operations staff. He is an extremely mature young man who has been a leader at every level throughout his minor hockey career and has certainly earned this opportunity. We look forward to working with Colton on his development and are excited about his future as a member of the Sarnia Sting.”
2017 draft picks Jamieson Rees, Alexandre Hogue, Brayden Guy, and Justin McCombs have previously committed to the team.
The Sting will travel to London on September 1 to face the Knights in preseason action, and will host the Knights the following night at 7pm.
Sarnia will have another preseason game at home to the Windsor Spitfires on September 16.
The Sting kick off the regular season in Guelph on September 22 and will host Kitchener in their home opener the following night.
