City Appeals To Residents To Water Trees

Drought conditions have led to the City of Sarnia appealing to residents to water their trees.

Manager of Parks, Forestry and Horticulture Patti Ross says the lack of rain in July has left the city in drought conditions, especially in the northend which has sandy soil.

Ross says young, smaller trees are highly susceptible to drought because of their shallow roots.

"It's always a benefit to water your trees at any time, all size trees, and a lot of people capture that when they water their lawn but yes any water is going to help our trees no questions," says Ross.

Ross says it would be ideal if residents could water their trees a couple of times a week with a slow trickle on to the roots for 30 to 60 minutes.
