Environment Canada says a tornado touched down in the Leamington area late Friday afternoon.
Meteorologists tracked a thunderstorm that moved from lower Michigan across Essex County and reached Leamington at about 5:40pm.
The weather agency says photographs taken at the time confirm an EF-0 tornado occurred with maximum winds of 130 km/h. Solar panels and a greenhouse were damaged.
Environment Canada had issued a tornado watch for Chatham-Kent, Windsor-Essex, Sarnia and Western Lambton County in light of possible severe thunderstorms which had the potential to produce tornadoes.
The watch was ended around 8pm.
Environment Canada says at around 7:30pm Friday another thunderstorm spawned a second tornado near Hawkesville in the Waterloo Region.
A damage assessment team rated the tornado as an EF-2 with maximum winds of 180 km/h.
Farm buildings and sheds were damaged and one anchored shed was destroyed. Farm equipment weighing over a ton was knocked over including a fork lift, a metal press and a grain drill. Power lines were also snapped.
There were no injuries reported in either tornado.
