Sarnia's public works crews were busy repairing multiple water main breaks in the city on Thursday afternoon.
City Operations Manager Bryan Prouse says severe thunderstorms and heavy rain caused back-to-back power outages at the water treatment plant.
"Those outages created pressure surges throughout the water distribution system, and created eight water main breaks," says Prouse.
The breaks occurred on Wellington St. between East St. and Russell St., Telfer Rd. north of Confederation St., Jordon Dr., Proctor St., Emma St., Lansdowne Ave., Airport Service Rd., and at the west end of Lougar Ave.
Prouse says crews will work through the night, and he's hopeful everything will be back to normal by Friday morning.
Residents were urged to avoid the areas until repairs were made, and to be mindful of road closures and lane restrictions.
Bluewater Power was dealing with an outage affecting about 100 customers in the Cardiff/Lanark/Bedford/Overlea area.
