Group Wants Ministry To Get To Bottom Of Well Water Concerns

Members of the group 'Water Wells First' are protesting in Sarnia Friday at the Ministry of Environment office on London Rd.

Spokesperson Kevin Jakubec says they believe vibrations from wind farm construction and operation are adversely impacting water quality.

He says they want the ministry to get to the bottom of their concerns about well water.

"We want to keep the pressure on the ministry to do their job and do an honest investigation," says Jakubec. "We've asked the Ministry of Environment repeatedly for almost a year now to come out and test why wells in North Chatham-Kent are turning from crystal clear water into black water."

The Chatham-Kent group held a two-and-a-half hour sit-in at the MOE's Windsor offices last month over issues about monitoring stations.

Jakubec says he's worried what could happen if the problem isn't addressed.

"This is happening in Ontario, we think we have the best technology, but we're on the verge of possibly a large scale heavy metals contamination. That would put Chatham-Kent up there with Flint, Michigan and Walkerton."

He says they're demanding a public inquiry be held to either get a proper analysis of well water or stop the wind turbines altogether.
