Four people face a long list of charges by Sarnia police after a joint investigation with the Toronto Police Service Fraud Division.
Sarnia police Constable John Sottosanti says it started in mid-June when they were contacted by Toronto police about a group of individuals believed to be using stolen credit cards here.
He says the investigation by the Sarnia Police Service Criminal Investigation Unit determined two men and two women from Toronto used fraudulent credit cards and credit card numbers to purchase jewellery, cell phones, pre-paid casino cards and other items.
"It's believed that approximately ten local stores have fallen victim to this elaborate scheme, with about $30,000 worth of merchandise being stolen via fraudulent transactions," says Sottosanti.
The four suspects, ranging in age from 27 to 42 years old, face 64 charges locally including theft, possession of stolen property and fraudulent use of a credit card.
Constable Sottosanti says all the charges from Sarnia have been transferred to Toronto where the four suspects are to be arrested.
