The Sarnia Library is closed until further notice, following what is being termed a minor fire in the basement of the downtown facility around 5pm Thursday.
Officials say the blaze occurred in the library's mechanical system and was quickly extinguished by Sarnia firefighters. There were no injuries.
Bluewater Power had to shut off hydro to the downtown core for about half an hour Thursday afternoon.
The Library will remain closed until the Electrical Safety Authority concludes on-site inspection and gives approval for re-opening.
Due dates for resources borrowed from the Sarnia Library, Sarnia Children's Library and the Bookmobile are being extended by ten days.
Materials can also be renewed or borrowed by visiting www.lclibrary.ca or at the Lambton Mall Rd., Pt. Edward, Bright's Grove, or Corunna branches.
