Bright's Grove Shoreline Improvements Expected

Improvements to the Lake Huron shoreline in Bright's Grove are on the way.

The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority has received $300,000 through a Water Erosion Control Infrastructure Program -- which will be matched by the City of Sarnia.

Mayor Mike Bradley says it's welcome news.

"There's great concern along the whole lake about the erosion, the high water levels and working with the conservation authority we've been, for many years, trying to come up with matching funds so we can continue to stop the erosion and protect the waterfront," says Bradley.

Improvements will be made to a section of shore between Helen and Kenwick Streets, where part of the seawall collapsed last December resulting in severe erosion and bank instability.

A draft design for the problem area, 150 m east of Kenwick St. and directly north of Bright's Grove Public School and Wildwood Park, calls for new armour stone revetment and the replacement of deteriorated steel groynes with new ones made of armour stone.

Construction is anticipated this fall.
