McNaughton Calls For Gas Bill Transparency

Monte McNaughton wants gas companies in Ontario to prominently show cap-and-trade costs as a separate line on their bills.

The Lambton-Kent Middlesex Conservative MPP introduced the Transparency in Gas Pricing Act at Queen's Park this week.

He says the Wynne Liberals are hiding the fees and says the public has a right to know how their bills add up.

"Debate will come in the fall when the house resumes in September," says McNaughton. "I think this is an important step to protect consumers. I wholeheartedly think that government has to be transparent, and should be transparent when it comes to charging people taxes and fees."

McNaughton says many groups, including the Industrial Gas Users Association, and the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters, are advocating for transparency in billing.

He says provinces like Quebec and British Columbia already have it in place.
