Going Green For Mental Health

Bluewater Health in Sarnia is shining green this week to support mental health awareness.

VP of Mental Health and Addictions Paula Reaume-Zimmer says the illumination campaign is for Mental Health Awareness Week, which is being recognized across the province.

She says the Sarnia hospital, along with iconic sites across Ontario, including the CN Tower, Niagara Falls and the Peace Bridge, are lighting up green.

"Our communities and our workplaces are all impacted with individuals who have suffered from a mental illness," says Reaume-Zimmer. "We're demonstrating the going green and lighting up for mental illness, really helping to strengthen the support and remind people about the importance of mental health."

One in five Canadians will experience mental health problems or mental illness in any given year.

Local residents can participate in the campaign by taking photos at illuminated green sites and sharing them on social media with the hashtag #GETLOUD.

Mental Health Awareness Week runs until May 7.
