Brayden Guy Signs With Sting (AUDIO)

The Sarnia Sting have announced the signing of 2017 third round pick Brayden Guy to a Standard Player Agreement and Education Package.

The power forward captained the Brampton 45's to a 27-6-3 record last season, and the team went on to finish 2nd in the OMHA Minor Midget AAA Championship.

In 34 contests with the 45’s, Guy posted 12 goals and 20 assists for 32 points. The left-winger added two goals and an assist in four OHL Cup tournament games.

Guy says he can't wait to get started with the Sting, adding he got a nice surprise visit a few days ago.

"My parents knew beforehand what was going on," says Guy. "The GM of Sarnia had emailed my parents about the contract before I knew. They didn't really let me know right away, they sort of kept it as a surprise. We were all just sitting around the living room and Mr. Sinclair showed up right at my door actually. I opened the door, it was pretty unexpected when I saw the contract papers in his hand. Right then, I realized what was happening and I was beyond excited, I had no words."

Guy says he had a great time at the team's orientation camp a couple of weekends ago.

"Going down there and just meeting all of the guys that had been drafted was really nice," says Guy. "I had some pretty good discussions with some of the players that were on the team last year. They told me what it was like in Sarnia, and filled me in on some things that I didn't know. Everything was really good, it was Grade A and done to a tee and I thought they did a really good job of welcoming all of the players. I thought it was a really great experience for me, and I had a really good time that weekend."

Sarnia Sting GM Nick Sinclair says the team is thrilled to add Guy.

“Brayden is the type of player that exudes character and compete. Those characteristics enabled him to be a relied upon as a leader with the 45’s last season and throughout his minor hockey years," says Sinclair. “He’s a big power forward with good hands and a tremendous drive to get better every day. This excites us as we look forward to working with Brayden on his transition into the OHL and development as a player.”

Alongside fellow Sting prospects Colton Kammerer and Ethan Langevin, Guy will represent Team OMHA Black at the Gold Cup taking place in Kitchener this weekend.
