Imperial issued a public notice Saturday that visible flaring can be expected at times at the Sarnia manufacturing complex.
In an email, spokesman Jon Harding says "Imperial Sarnia is in the process of restarting an operating unit and as a result there may be intermittent, visible flaring for 12 to 24 hours beginning on Sunday, April 2, 2017." He says flares are safety devices intended to safely burn off excess product or materials used at the facility. Imperial was also informing the Chemical Valley Emergency Coordinating Organization (CVECO) about the flaring.
