Sarnia Fire Conducting Training This Week

The public is being advised that the Sarnia fire department is doing search and rescue training this week.

Platoon Chief Bill Sheane says firefighters will be conducting what's called "Rapid Intervention Team" training on London Line starting Monday.

"It's so if we do have a downed firefighter, like if a ceiling collapses and he's trapped, this is the team that goes in to help them," says Sheane. "We go in and provide them with air for their breathing apparatus if they're getting low on air, and then we'll dig them out and retrieve them back to the safe area."

Fire trucks will be visible in the area and non-toxic smoke will be used to simulate conditions for firefighters at a training house in the 2000-block of London Line.
