Snowy, Blustery Last Week Of Winter

Spring officially arrives on March 20 but our weather for much of this last week of winter is going to be snowy, blustery and cold.

Environment Canada's special weather statement remained in effect for Sarnia-Lambton Monday.

Meteorologist Geoff Coulson says a low pressure system is expected to dump 8 cm to 10 cm (3 inches to 4 inches) of snow on the Sarnia area by Tuesday night and it will be blown around on strong northeast winds.

"Blowing snow is going to be an issue with this event, it's going to be a duration event, going through today into Tuesday," says Coulson. "Anyone planning travel towards Lake Ontario, that's where the winter storm warnings are in effect. Places like Hamilton and the Niagara Peninsula are going to have a northeast wind off of Lake Ontario, they're looking at storm totals approaching 30 cm, maybe even a bit more in some areas."

Coulson says two merging weather systems are expected to bring severe winter weather to southern Quebec, Atlantic Canada and the northeastern U.S.

He says some lake effect snow is possible in Sarnia-Lambton late Tuesday into Wednesday in the wake of the storm.
