The Sarnia Sting fell 6-3 to the Firebirds on Wednesday to remain five points behind Flint in the OHL standings.
The Firebirds kicked off the game with a strong first period by scoring three back-to-back goals before Adam Ruzicka was able to score a goal for Sarnia late in the frame.
Flint hit back by scoring 34 seconds into the second, and Drake Rymsha scored at 6:37 to give Sarnia their second goal of the night. The Firebirds tacked on one more goal to make it 5-2 going into the third.
The Firebirds started off the final frame with a quick goal 37 seconds into the period. Jordan Kyrou scored for Sarnia 4:22 into the third, but the Sting weren't able to gain any more ground before the end of the game.
Despite the loss, Sarnia outshot Flint 32-24.
The Sting will head to Erie on Saturday to battle the Otters at 7pm.
