Lambton Public Health says confirmed cases of the flu have more than doubled in the last month.
Supervisor Erin Courtney says there have been 68 confirmed cases and three flu-related deaths to date, all involving elderly people.
"We're seeing it in all ages, from newborns up to the elderly, so it's affecting everybody and the majority of the cases are H3N2," says Courtney. "Fever, high high fever, chills and a lot of body aches. It's a respiratory virus, so coughing, difficulty breathing and stuffy nose, that sort of thing."
Last season, there were 79 confirmed cases of the flu in Sarnia-Lambton and one related death.
Courtney says the flu is still in the community but on the decline both locally and across the province.
Courtney reminds residents to prevent the spread of viruses by washing hands with soap frequently, keeping ill family members home from school or work, and cleaning regularly touched surfaces like door handles and computer keyboards.
