Residents Encouraged To Support Muslim Community

A gathering is planned on the steps of Sarnia's City Hall Thursday in the wake of Sunday's mass shooting at a Quebec City mosque.

It's a chance for residents to show support for the Muslim community and offer condolences.

Local Immigration Partnership Co-Ordinator Stephanie Ferrera hopes for a strong turn out.

"All are welcome, there is absolutely no one that is excluded from this whatsoever," says Ferrera. "We just want everybody to have an opportunity to gather and console one another and to talk about it. If they want to find out more details about what's happening, we'll provide them with an update and just give them a space to express their feelings. In Canada we like to think of ourselves as bigger than that, but at the same time it's a reality check that we need to observe."

The gathering is set to take place at 12pm and will last about 30 minutes.

It will will feature speakers from the Sarnia Muslim Association.
