Dan Edwards' "Do It For Sarnia" campaign has raised $63,000 of the $150,000 goal in support of mental health programs at Bluewater Health.
Plans are now in the works to improve the 27-bed inpatient unit.
Bluewater Health Foundation spokesperson Kathy Alexander says details are preliminary at this point, but the expansion would benefit the community.
"In terms of expansion, what we mean is new equipment and new programs, educational opportunities for staff and patients," says Alexander. "We know the need is there for our community and there's so many patients that benefit from the program here at the hospital. Dan's funds are truly making a difference and will continue to make a difference in the future."
Plans are in the works for a 2nd annual Do It For Sarnia block party. It's scheduled for May 5, pending Sarnia council approval.
Edwards has been in a wheelchair following a freak accident a decade ago that left him paralyzed.
The community followed up with $180,000 in donations for his family.
