Plympton-Wyoming Mayor Releases Community Appreciation List

Plympton-Wyoming Mayor Lonny Napper has released the recipients of the 2016 Mayor's Community Appreciation Awards.

The following winners will be formally acknowledged at a luncheon on February 4 at the Camlachie Community Centre.

  • Wyoming Minor Baseball Association In recognition of their tireless passion to provide the best organized baseball program for over 400 kids along with working to ensure our ball diamonds are in pristine condition.
  • Julie Whitely Julie was instrumental in organizing Toastmaster Clubs in our area. She was awarded the prestigious and distinguished Toastmasters Award.
  • Hydro One - Wyoming In recognition of 50 years of continued service within Plympton-Wyoming and in being one of Wyoming’s largest employers.
  • John and Joyce VanKlavern In recognition of their 30th Business Anniversary (VanKlavern Auctions) and for their tireless generosity with their time and talents to raise money for many local charities.
  • Huron Shore Optimist In recognition of their 40th Anniversary and still going strong supporting young and old and many projects in Plympton-Wyoming.
  • Carrie-Ann Wilson For her efforts as organizer of the Ag in the Classroom program; attracting several hundred students to learn more about agriculture and rural life.
  • Faith and Dave Abbey – Faith’s Footsteps In recognition of a brave, young lady and her supportive family who as a cancer survivor wanted to give back. She has courageously walked three times from London to Sarnia and back again raising awareness and funds for ChildCan and on her three stops within Wyoming, warmed her way into our hearts.
  • Jessie Clark – Kyle Hendrikx – Lucas Hendrikx – Olivia Schenk These four students of Plympton-Wyoming were members of St. Patrick High School’s First Robotic Team. This program combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. By winning the regional event at Ryerson University in Toronto, they went onto the World Competition in St. Louis where they placed 24th out of 72 entries – just missing the cut to move onto the finals.
  • Dr. Susan Mathers Is being honoured for her many years of excellent service in the Wyoming area, and in recognition of her being chosen as the recipient of the Patient’s Choice Award by her patients.
  • Lynn Eves – Bluewater Center for Raptor Rehabilitation In honour of 25 years of service for the rehabilitation of birds of prey.
  • Mike Vasey – Brian Freer – Joe Emilio Honoured for receiving the Fire Services Long Term Services Medal, in honour of 25 years of service.
  • Keith Murray Awarded Posthumously For his volunteerism with the Huron Shores Optimists, Tai Chi, and COPA in the restoration of the F-86 Sabre jet fighter in Germain Park, Sarnia - is many hours of entertaining folks in nursing homes, parks and at special occasions. You truly made a difference in our community.
  • Keenhan Reidhead – Jace McGrail For your excellent accomplishments in the Science Fair – winning many awards for your project on road salt.
  • Wyoming Fire Department – Agricultural Society and Wyoming Lions Club For your amazing ability to join together to organize the Tri Tractor Pull this past summer. This is a wonderful example of small town Ontario at its best brining to Plympton-Wyoming a major tractor pull event.
  • Bill and Lynn Duffield In honour of being awarded the Long Service Award – in recognition of the contributions and achievements in the Ontario Sheep Industry.
  • Les Canton – Canton Saw Sharpening In recognition of 40 years of business and being an inspiration and role model for anyone facing challenges in life.
  • Marilyn Gladu For being honoured by McLean’s Magazine as Parliamentarian of the Year, as the most collegial MP of 2016, as chosen by her peers.
  • Jessie Brooks Jessie and her dog Kasper are being honoured for her incredible year. Attending Dog Shows from Owen Sound, Ontario to Weston, West Virginia; Jessie has chalked up 10 wins and topped it off with back to back scholarship wins in Flora, Illinois.
 

Everyone is welcome to attend the luncheon. The cost is a donation to the Wyoming Baseball Association.
