Elders Long-Term Care Facility On Aamjiwnaang's Wish List

Aamjiwnaang Council plans to focus on the needs of seniors in the First Nation in 2017.

Chief Joanne Rogers says council wants to lay the groundwork to establish the community's first long-term care facility.

"We don't want them leaving our community," says Rogers. "We want them to be able to stay here. So, one of the top goals for council is a long-term care facility. We have to make sure we have the proper infrastructure to withstand that project."

She says council plans to investigate possible infrastructure improvements with city of Sarnia officials.

Rogers says council hopes to establish a task force early in the new year to focus on the project.

It will be made up of individuals from the band office, service groups, elders and youth representatives from the first nation.
