Low Water Advisory

The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority has issued a level one low water advisory for its watershed.

Spokesperson Davin Heinbuck says it's a proactive approach after an unusually dry fall.

The area only received 10% of the normal monthly precipitation from September to November.

As a result, area residents are being asked to voluntarily reduce water usage by 10%.

"Through the winter, it's difficult to really cut back on water," says Heinbuck. "It's more of a proactive decision. If residents could keep in mind that water conservation should benefit the long term, I think that's really the key message here."

Heinbuck says if the winter doesn't provide a lot of snow pack, the effects of 2016 could be further compounded.

He says the goal is to ensure water levels return to more normal conditions in the spring and summer months.

A Level 2 low water advisory had been in place throughout summer, which called for a 20% reduction in water consumption.

The watershed borders the shores of Lake Huron and includes Grand Bend, and Pt. Franks in Lambton County.
