Be Holiday Safe This Year

The Sarnia Police Service is reminding homeowners to lock it up this Christmas. Constable John Sottosanti says don't make yourself a target for thieves. "If you are going away and you trust your neighbors, tell them of your plans and to watch out over your house," he says. "If you can set up timers on various lights in your house to go off at various times, that way someone thinks there is someone actually in there. Don't advertise the fact you're going to be away on social media. It's not unusual to see a number of thefts right now, especially shoplifters in shopping malls. Clerks are distracted by the crowds and have to be vigilant ." Constable Sottosanti also advises residents to keep boxes and wrapping from big ticket items including t.v's and other electronics out of the garbage and recycling until the day of pick up.
