It's been a Sarnia tradition for the past 38 years.
The members of Redeemer Lutheran Church at 429 Indian Rd. at Hickory Ave. are staging their live nativity scene beginning Wednesday to Friday.
Members of the church take turns standing in the 20 ft illuminated barn, dressed as Mary, Joseph, the wise men and shepherds. There are two stalls for a donkey and sheep, Christmas carols are played over a speaker system and free hot chocolate offered after a 7:30pm carol sing.
Congregation spokesman Brian Loerke says hundreds of residents drive by or stop year after year.
"I think people are just looking for something other than what's at the mall," he says. "It reminds them what the real meaning of Christmas is about."
He says about 100 volunteers are needed to pull the display together.
"It's a way of some great fellowship for the congregation," he says. "People come in from out of town that have been long time members and it's nice to see them again. It's a reconnect time for our church."
The live nativity scene will be staged Wednesday through Friday night from 6pm-9pm.
