Pipefitters Mount Another Impressive Hamper Drive

Members of Pipefitters Local 663, with help from volunteers, were delivering Christmas hampers to families in need Friday.

Business Manager Ross Tius says they also raised nearly $52,000 for the Salvation Army.

He says almost all of the 1,100 union members help out in some way.

"We have probable 100 volunteers to deliver 140 hampers, all of our contractor groups have supported us, it's been a group effort," says Tius.

Tius says each hamper has about $140 worth of supplies including vegetables, canned food and gifts.

"If it wasn't such a great community effort we wouldn't be able to raise the type of money we do," says Tius. "Right now, we have just under $52,000 to hand over to Salvation Army, so that will make someone's Christmas just a little brighter."

Members of the Sarnia Legionnaires helped deliver hampers.

The pipefitters have conducted the hamper drive since 1993.
