Teddy Bear Delivery Underway

Over 3,400 stuffed toys were set up at Lambton Ford Thursday morning for delivery to 11 local charitable agencies in time for Christmas.

The bears were collected during the Sarnia Sting's Teddy Bear Toss game on December 4 against Niagara.

The Salvation Army will be adding nearly 2,000 toys to their holiday hampers that will be distributed throughout the city.

Captain Mark Braye says children look forward to the event every year.

"We had Salvation Army hockey sweaters made up and they went on the ice and collected the bears, so they felt like they were helping out because they know that they're collecting these bears, the bears come to us and some other groups that help people in the city," says Braye.

This year's Teddy Bear Toss goal scorer Anthony Salinitri was also on hand at Lambton Ford Thursday morning.

"Guys in the fifth year like Kevin (Spinozzi), Jeff (King) and (Jaden) Lindo, they all want to score it," says Salinitri. It's a game that's easy to get up for, because it's exciting. The fans are into it. It's for a good cause. There's going to be a lot of kids that are getting these presents for Christmas. It's a good thing."

Lambton Ford President Rob Ravensberg says over the event's 19-year history, the number of toys collected for charity is nearing 54,000.
