Real Estate Sales Surpass $400M For Second Straight Year

Sarnia-Lambton real estate sales have surpassed the $400-million mark for the second straight year.

Ten-year record highs have been posted during seven months of 2016 so far with volume sales now at more than $436-million.

Real Estate Board President Jane Baker says it's remarkable because December sales haven't even been recorded yet.

"We have already surpassed last years total of $411.7-million by $25-million," says Baker. "That's not even including the upcoming totals for December."

148 properties worth $38.3-million sold last month, up 23% over November 2015.

"It's definitely been a good year if you're a seller," says Baker. "The lack of listings has spurred a lot of multiple offer situations and competition. You do tend to get your asking price or as close to it as possible and the best conditions."

MLS listings dropped again, down 15% for the month and 8% for the year.

There are currently 529 active listings in the MLS system with 254 of those being single family homes, 120 of which were new in November.

The highest number of residential sales was 38 in the $100,000 to $150,000 range.

The average sale price so far this year is just over $233,000.
