The CEO of the Sarnia-Lambton Chamber of Commerce says Ontario's Infrastructure Minister would like to see an oversized load corridor established in the city.
Shirley de Silva was part of a chamber delegation to Queen's Park this past Monday. She says Bob Chiarelli was very interested in the project and wants to be part of the conversation.
Local officials have long said a corridor to the waterfront is needed to facilitate the export of oversized vessels fabricated locally.
Modifications to existing roads including widening, and eliminating power lines, is estimated to cost $3.6-million.
de Silva says they also met with Environment and Climate Change Minister Glen Murray.
"We were able to discuss the impact of the government's policies on carbon reduction, especially as it relates to our industry," said de Silva. "What we're actually doing is we're bringing information forward and we're ensuring that Sarnia is top of mind in the discussions."
Electricity costs were also discussed with energy ministry officials.
