Power Plant Builder Headed To Trial On Safety Charges

A Toronto company building the Green Electron power plant in St. Clair Township is to appear for trial next year on Occupational Health and Safety Act charges.

Five days have been set aside in April 2017 to deal with five charges against Greenfield South Power Corporation.

Over 200 unionized tradespeople held a protest in August 2015 complaining of poor work practices and unsafe working conditions. The Ontario Labour Ministry investigated and laid charges.

Construction of the 289-MW natural gas fed power plant, that originally began in 2013 on Oil Springs Line, continues.

The project was relocated to St. Clair Township after Ontario’s liberal government stopped work in Mississauga in advance of the 2011 provincial election.
