Sting Trio Making Most Of NHL Opportunity

Sarnia OHL fans may have to get use to referring to the three members of last year's team as former Sting.

It looks like Jakob Chychryn, Pavel Zacha and Travis Konecny have done enough to stick with their NHL clubs for now, and all three could be gone for good.

All three have impressed during their early season dress rehearsals and will be staying past their ten game stints. A rookie can play up to nine games in the NHL before the first year of their entry level contract takes effect, which will be the case for the Sting trio.

Chychrun, the 16th overall pick in June, has three points in nine games and has averaged over 20 minutes of ice time over his last three games.

Konecny, Philadelphia's first round pick in 2015, has two goals and six assists in a dozen games. He's getting plenty of ice time with the Flyers so far this season.

Both Konecny and Chychrun are still eligible to play for Canada and the World Junior Hockey Championship next month.

Pavel Zacha, who's eligible to represent the Czech Republic in December, scored his first NHL goal Thursday night against Florida. The sixth overall pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft has four points in nine games this season.

Even without the trio, the Sting have scored 67 goals in 16 games, the second highest total in the OHL.
