Curtis Egert scored twice and Nash Nienhuis dished out three assists as the Sarnia Legionnaires downed the visiting London Nationals 6-4 in GOHJL play Thursday night.
It was the Legionnaires fifth win in six games to improve to 11-7-0-0 on the season.
Sarnia jumped out to a 2-0 lead just two minutes into the game on goals from Egert and Alec Dekoning. For Egert, it was his first career GOJHL goal.
The Nationals scored twice early in the second period off the sticks of Michael Andlauer and Nathan Gomes to tie the game 2-2. Egert scored his second of the contest midway through the frame on a high slap shot that knocked the water bottle off the net.
Just two minutes later, London scored two quick goals to pull ahead 4-3 but Legionnaire defenceman Brett Storr tied the game 4-4 with under a minute remaining in the period.
Jake Vince's second goal of the season, just 32 seconds into the third period, proved to be the game winner for Sarnia. Justin VanBuskirk sealed the win with an empty netter with just two seconds remaining in the contest.
Legionnaires goalie Travis Moore made 39 saves for his third win of the season. Zack Weir turned aside 22 shots in the Nationals net. Sarnia was held scoreless on two powerplay chances while London converted twice on six opportunities with the man advantage.
The Legionnaires sit fifth in the Western Conference standings with 22 points, seven back of the first place LaSalle Vipers. The Nationals (13-4-1-0) are in second place, two points behind LaSalle.
Sarnia is back in action Friday night in St. Thomas and will host the Stars next Thursday at the Brock Street Barn.
