Legionnaires Fall 5-2 To Lincolns

The Sarnia Legionnaires (6-6-0-0) dropped a tough 5-2 decision at the hands of the visiting St. Marys Lincolns (4-10-0-0) in GOJHL hockey action Thursday night.

Justin VanBuskirk and Joey Zappa each scored a goal and added an assist for the Legionnaires while Zach Vanderwal dished out a pair of assists. The Lincolns held a 2-1 lead after two periods before Zappa tied the contest 2-2 midway through the third frame.

The Lincolns stormed back with three straight third period goals, including two on the powerplay, to seal the 5-2 victory. The Legionnaires took seven minor penalties in the third period alone.

Sarnia goalie Travis Moore stopped 35 of 40 shots while Tristan Lewis made 33 saves in the Lincolns net. Left winger Curtis Egert made his Legionnaires debut after being sent back to the GOJHL from the Sarnia Sting.

The Legionnaires return to the ice Saturday in Lambton Shores.
