Gusty Winds Expected In Advance Of Cold Front

Much of southern Ontario, including Sarnia-Lambton is under a special weather statement.

Environment Canada says very strong and gusty southwest winds are expected this afternoon ahead of an approaching cold front.

Gusts up to 70 km/h are likely in many areas along with scattered showers and the odd thunderstorm.

The national weather agency says even stronger wind gusts to 80 km/h are possible in showers and thunderstorms but the warning criteria of 90 km/h is not expected to be reached.

Environment Canada says it will monitor the situation closely.

Winds will quickly diminish this evening with the passage of the cold front.

A new record high was set, unofficially in Sarnia Monday, breaking the previous mark for October 17, set in 1956.

The mercury at Chris Hadfield Airport hit 26.4 C, surpassing the previous record of 26.1 C.

Today's record high is 27.8 C set in 1950 but we're not likely to reach that.

The normal high for this time of year is 14 C. (57 F)
