After being thumped 7-2 in Erie Wednesday, the Sarnia Sting rebounded in St. Catharines Thursday night with a hard fought 5-4 win over Niagara.
St. Louis Blues prospect Jordan Kyrou led the Sting attack with a goal and three assists and was named the game's first star.
Troy Lajeunesse, Jeff King with his second in as many nights, Franco Sproviero with his first OHL goal, and Nikita Korostelev also scored for the Sting. Korostelev now has a team leading nine goals and is tied with Kyrou with 12 points so far on the season.
The teams split four goals in the first period while Sarnia held a 4-3 edge heading into the third.
The Sting's penalty kill was stellar with the club being assessed nine penalties to the Ice Dogs four. Niagara scored just once on the power play, with a two man advantage, in the opening period.
Kyrou's quick snap shot in the third gave the Sting a 5-3 lead and stood to be the game winner after Niagara pulled to within one goal with just over two minutes remaining.
The Ice Dogs would pull the goalie but fail to get the equalizer past Justin Fazio.
Fazio stopped 27 of 31 shots while Ice Dogs netminder Stephen Dhillon was beaten five times on 37 shots. The Sting (6-2-1-0) return to Progressive Auto Sales Arena Friday to play their third game in three nights against the Barrie Colts.
The team will raise its 2015-2016 OHL West Division title banner before puck drop at 7:05pm.
