St. Vincent de Paul Closed By Fire

Clean up continues at St.Vincent de Paul's East St. store after a fire last week.

The business was filled with smoke after a fence fire spread and fully engulfed a nearby lean-to shed around 11:15pm Friday, September 16.

Sarnia Fire and Rescue says it's believed the blaze was accidental due to careless discarding of smoking materials.

Store Employee Kim Dingman says it's difficult to be closed for any length of time because the community relies on their help.

"We did lose a considerable amount and we did lose a lot of stuff that was in storage in our sheds," says Dingman. "It's very hard because we are here to help people and when something like this happens it really sets us back."

Dingman says they're holding a sidewalk sale today and Saturday outside the East St. outlet from 11am to 4pm.

They're also appealing to the public for donations of clothes, household items and cash.
