Legionnaires Edge Preds 5-4 In Overtime Thriller

Hunter Tyczynski scored 1:35 into overtime, powering the Sarnia Legionnaires to a thrilling 5-4 win over the Lambton Shores Predators in GOJHL hockey action Thursday night.

Lambton Shores jumped out to an early 1-0 lead just 2:17 into the opening period on Wes Dobbin's third goal of the season. Legionnaires forward Ethan Dupont notched the first of his two goals 3:40 into the second period to tie the game 1-1.

Predators rookie defenceman Peter Cascagnette scored his first career Jr. B goal to put the Preds on top 2-1. The lead was short lived however, as Brett Storr tied the game on a seeing-eye point shot just 57 seconds later. Dupont put Sarnia on top just 1:26 into the third period but the Preds tied the game up 3-3 on Jake DeSando's third goal of the season on the powerplay.

A crosschecking penalty against Preds defenceman Vaughn Treppa sent the Legionnaires to the man advantage with just two minutes remaining in the third period. Justin VanBuskirk scored with just 20 seconds remaining to put Sarnia ahead 4-3. With their goalie on the bench, the Predators stormed right back to tie the game 4-4 with just five seconds left. Brett Fisher buried a one timer in front of the net, assisted by Ethan Sarfati and Andrew Kim.

Tyzcynski's OT winner came off the rush on a wrist shot to the top corner. He also dished out a pair of assists in the victory.

Sarnia scored once on five powerplay chances while the Preds converted once on two opportunities.

The win moves the Legionnaires to 3-2-0-0 on the season while Lambton Shores is now 2-1-0-1.

Sarnia travels to St. Marys Friday night while the Preds will host St. Thomas on Saturday night.
